Summary of "Boyhood"
The young boy John lives in South Africa with his parents. John is no ordinary boy. He knows early on that he is different and he fears that the other boys will find out the truth about him, that he is not normal. Thus, he has many secrets that he dares not share with anyone. He is not the only one in his family that is not normal. His whole family is weird because he and his brother are not beaten by their parents, they are atheists, and they all wear shoes. However, he suspects that his brother could accually deep down be normal. John is accepted on his mother's side of the family because they were just like him when they were younger. His father's side of the family though, does not accept him in the same way, but he must maintain good relations with them because his favorite place in the whole world is at his uncle's farm. This is a novel about a young boy who thinks very much, especially about how different he is. He can not like his mother and doesn't tell her much, especially not about his big secret at school: he has become a roman catholic (by mistake). This young boy's fears, his secrets and his relationship with his parents are indeed unique and this novel is fun to read. It is a charming story with lots of humor.
