Summary of "The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy"

5stars

These classic five books are basically about one thing; the meaning of life. You will given the answer to the question "What is the meaning of life, the universe and everything". But in order to understand the answer you must first understand the question. However, this will take a really big computer and a very long time to calculate. The story begins when Arthur Dent wakes up by the noise from bulldozers outside his house. A new freeway has been planned and his house has been scheduled for demolition to make room for the freeway.

At the same time his friend Ford Prefect has a bigger problem to worry about. Ford convinces Arthur to come with him, and soon he zaps both himself and Arthur away from earth, just moments before it explodes. Before Arthur knows what has happened they are onboard a Vogon spaceship. This is the same spaceship that just extinguished earth to make room for an inter-galactic freeway.

The earthling Arthur is thrown into an adventure which takes him around the galaxy, guided by his friend Ford. Ford is an alien and he is a researcher for the encyclopedia The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

This is a hilarious, crazy and very intelligently written book where we follow Arthur on his amazing journey through the galaxy. He learns the galactic essentials for survival like why you should bring a towel. Why you should stick a Babel fish in your ear. What is the meaning of the number 42? How do you survive vogon poetry? And what are those intelligent creatures that left earth long before it was blown into pieces? Arthur will also have the pleasure(?) of meeting the two-headed president of the galaxy Zaphod Beeblebrox and the depressed robot Marvin.

The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a series of five books.

1) The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy
2) The Restaurant at the End of the Universe

4) So Long, And Thanks for the Fish
