Summary of "Last Orders"

Jack was a butcher and he had a beautiful wife, Amy. Jack has recently died and his last wish was that his ashes be spread with the wind at the coast. Margate is the place where he had planned to retire at together with his wife. When Amy does not want to take the ashes to Margate Jack's old buddies from the pub - Ray, Vic, Vince and Lenny - decide to make the trip to Margate. On their way there they take a few detours and the trip takes a little longer than anticipated.

During the trip the four men's backgrounds are being presented by the author and their relationship with Jack. Thus, the author lets the story jump between the present and the past and between all four men and their families. The lack of structure makes the book is a little messy and it is difficult to remember all the names. I fail to see the point of telling this story. It is very simple without any kind of deaph or meaning. The language is not very good, nor is the dialogue.
