Todd Anderson, Neil Perry, and Mr. Keating are three of the most important characters in the film "Dead Poets Society." Todd Anderson is the character that we see undergo the most change during the course of the movie. During Todd's stay at Welton, he spent much of his time studying rather than socializing, and often passing up a good time because of his shyness. Through the Dead Poets Society, Todd became a more friendly and social person. Later in the year, an assignment was given by Mr. Keating for each student to compose their own poem. Todd spent much of his time trying to create a poem, but when the time came in class to read it, he backed down and told Mr. Keating he had not completed the assignment. Mr. Keating then made Todd stand up, and make up a poem, from scratch in front of his classmates. After Todd's reading, his feeling of embarrassment disappeared, and his confidence rose. The year slowly passed, Todd's birthday had come, and his parents had sent him a present. To Todd's dismay, it was the same desk set that he had received the previous year. Todd felt unloved because of this, but Neil had cheered up Todd by telling him that he should not care, the desk set would come once again the next year, but Todd shouldn't worry, he had friends who cared about him, and he was also happy at school for once. Todd's transformation from a shy, anti-social student into an outgoing leader, who champions for justice for Mr. Keating, shows his character.
