Lord of the flies

It has been said “Literature opens a dark window on the soul, revealing more about what is bad in human nature than what is good”. I agree with this statement. Many pieces of literature show the dark side of human nature, but none come close to the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding. In this novel, the dark nature of humans is highly emphasized. Two examples of this is the development of Jacks character throughout the novel, and the character of Roger.
In the novel Jack soon turns into a viscous (tribe like) person, he is almost acting like an animal. Ralph has lost his control of the kids. Jack now refers to his followers as "his tribe". Jack now has control over the majority of the kids. They are now a hunting group. The hunting group now has control over the island. The hunting group really reveals how bad human nature really is. They have hunted a pig in a way that can relate to rape. This was a truing point in the struggle between Ralph and Jack and the killing of the sow. The sow is a mother: "sunk in deep maternal bliss lay the largest of the lot… the great bladder of her belly was fringed with a row of piglets that slept or burrowed and squeaked." This is accomplished in terms of sexual intercourse.
Roger seems to be the protégé of Jack in the novel. Roger has followed Jack in the way that he has no regard for authority. Roger has committed murder to the character Piggy as Jack previously killed Simon. If Ralph were to kill Jack, then Roger would serve as a fine or better replacement. If you have killed you can not go back to normal society life. The second Roger has released the boulder he has revealed more about what is bad in human nature than what is good. The fact that Roger is still a child makes the situation more horrifying; to see a child kill! Jack has mentored Roger to an uncivilized tribes-man.
